Sept. 16 2002 - Photo shoots
I've been having a really mellow day. The sky is grey, and the rain is coming and going off and on. It's nice to have the change in weather. The condo is cooler, and everything seems still and soft.
I've been reading a Clive Barker book, Everville, which I've read before. Which influenced some of my photo edits today. His genre is horror, and some of his characters are nightmarish distortions of the human form. When I was browsing through the many many photos I took of Wolfe and Aya last night, some of the blurry ones had a dreamlike eerie quality which reminded me of the feeling I get sometimes when I read Barker's work. So I started to build on that.
Actually, it's the process I always use when I edit photos. I look at them as a group, and I analyze what feelings, sensations, thoughts, they invoke in me. Then I make adjustments, sometimes very minor, like just cropping out some clutter in the background, or brightening them up a little, and other times extreme, making more fantasy images, and of course anything in between. I take what I already feel exists in the images, and try to use graphics techniques that enhance it. It's like listening very closely to what I feel the image might be saying, and then trying to find what tricks I can use to pump up the volume.
So with some inspiration from Clive Barker, and the happy mistake of some blurred spots, I re-worked and re-worked, and re-worked a set of photos in a gallery I labeled 'possession'.

It's actually one of the galleries I'm proudest of, I think because I really felt like I was expressing myself on a deep creative level, which can be a very satisfying process.
I have a busy week ahead of me, which is a little intimidating sometimes given my health. At the same time, I keep reminding myself that I'll be busy with things I love to do. Work around the website. Inspecting and probably photographing some interesting people in interesting ways. Maybe a little domination work. Then, there is always the unexpected.
Aya left her bag of outfits and tricks here, in anticipation of doing more pictures, and will likely be here on Wednesday night to help out with the live show... I believe, she will be doing my head shave, if not all, at least part. That, should be hot. As she is one gorgeous girl. I may have to be restrained just so I can keep my hands to myself while my hair is getting done!
