Aug 23, 2002 - Iggy Piggy Pics
I love my dog. He has so graciously survived the company of two rescue foster dogs back to back. The last one a little bit psycho, who has also been using his bed/kennel the entire time of his visit. He is such a good boy.
Yesterday we had gone for a long walk, and wished we had taken the camera. We stopped at a public fountain and Iggy got in to cool off. He was hilarious! The water was chest deep, and he galloped and hopped around like mad. Making as big splashes as he could and trying to bite the splashing water in front of him, we soon had a small crowd watching and laughing. He kept playing hard for about 20 minutes. Then a very polite security man, saying he had no problem with it, and thought our dog adorable, but... the building rules were such, as he had to ask us to remove our dog from the fountain.
Sometimes I wonder at the people in control of such things, what they are thinking... It reminds me of this old apartment building I pass on the bus every once in a while. It has some very plain flower beds all along it's front. Sometimes there are even a few flowers there. It looks like at one point, the owners had some problems with people picking flowers, because, all around the entire beds in the front, using uneven sticks and orange laundry line, someone had put up a makeshift fence/barrier. This visually lovely barrier, comes complete with several sloppily printed hand made signs that say 'nice to look at, but don't touch'. I don't think people even see the flowers anymore, all they see is paraniod possessiveness wrapped in a particularly sloppy tacky package. When people post 'stay off the grass' signs, people stop admiring their lawns... all they see is the sign.
Well, in my perfect world, lawns are for frolicking on. Flowers are meant to be occasionally ripped off by partially good intentioned neighbourhood kids looking for a way to say I love you to mom, or a desperate lover late on their way to a date, and fountains should be filled with splashing kiddies, of any age and species. Take a look at your priorities people! Do people see your lawn/garden when they walk by? or do they see warning signs? If you're keeping your house so spotless that people feel like an instant mess walking in, and can't relax and touch things, then you've lost sight of the big picture. I always feel most relaxed when I visit someone for the first time, and discover a little bit of chaos, and a fair bit of dust and or animal hair, then I feel like I can really relax and be myself.
Here are some recent pictures of Iggy... he's ten months now, finished growing.. and will probably look like this for the rest of his doggy years. No, these pictures aren't distorted, this dog is a master of goofy expressions, and his squishy face seems to be made out of rubber...
