January 18 - Doggie Decor

I've deprived you of pictures of my puppy for oh, a whole 2 or 3 entries I think.  So, here are some snaps I snagged of Ig the Pig in his little bed we made for him.  It's a four poster, I'm still humming and hawing over whether or not to add a canopy, or a head board, hmmmm.

As you can see, it comes complete with batik futon mattress, and three velvet cushions.  He has a growing collection of dog toys, from local admirers and from my little spending money, such a spoiled pup! Featured in the bed with him now are his collection of faux fur tennis balls, one of his favorite chase and fetch toys (though I don't always get them back).

The bed at first was supposed to have a mattress made out of some sofa cushions I scavenged covered in some gold sari silk I have, and it was set up that way, and the thin futon mattress had been folded on the floor for a while in a larger configuration for barbie's dog to lounge on.  When I made the bed for Iggy with the cushions, I folded the futon blanket/mattress up and put it beside the bed.  Well, Iggy took one look at his new bed, and promptly sat on the folded futon beside it.  So, my little brain slowly catching up, I pulled the cushions out, and plunked the folded batik futon in.  There you have it.  He was as happy as a clam, and started to relocate himself, and some of his favorite toys, to his bed.  Unfortunately, this has left barbie's dog, a big rottweiler, a little confused, and occasionally he tries to crawl into Iggy's bed, the amazing thing, is sometimes he actually manages to sit himself in there, though looking rather awkward and a little wobbly.

<big sigh> I really do think he's the handsomest little dog in the world.  I just wish he was easier to housebreak.  Most puppies know instinctively not to pee close to their food, or their beds.  Unfortunately, Iggy well let loose when and where the urge hits him, right by his food bowl on occasion, and a few times already in his bed <groan>.  So it's going to have to go to the laundry mat sooner rather than later.  As if we don't have enough stuff to drag down there on our backs.  Sadly, this is the hardest to house train dog I've ever owned.  I'm hoping, it's going to start to come together soon.

It's hard not to forgive him everything though, and I always get upset with myself for not having gotten him out in time, rather than him going indoors, it just seems his little bladder is really inconsistent, sometimes it's 2 hours, and other times its 10 minutes between pee breaks.

There you go, that's the pup-date.  Oh, he's also added a trick which command has turned out to be 'tail! tail! tail!' which upon me shrieking with great enthusiasm he will chase his tail round and round for as long as I'm willing to shriek it and he's not too dizzy to comply.  We both seem to think this is great fun, and a good way to spend a large portion of our afternoon.

I think I'll go see if he's up to it now, If you haven't experienced it first hand, I'm sure the fascination is hard to fathom, but trust me on this one, it's hilarious.
