January 4 - Truly Poor
Well, we had our bankruptcy appointment today. I cried a little in the lawyers office. Final calculations show we'll have about 400$ to live off of for the month after basic bills, 400$ for food for two big people, 2 cats, and a puppy. Yuck. I called the food bank to find out which depot was closest to us, mercifully just 3 blocks away! So it's lining up once a week for food, joy. That and the local produce dumpsters after dark. I think this will be tighter than even when I was struggling in college at the lowest points.
I think the trustee found us to be some of his most unique clients ever, we arrived with the puppy (couldn't get a sitter, he's still not crate trained, though we're working on that now), so there we are puppy in tow. The puppy who ends up sleeping most of the appointment half way onto the conference table (he likes to stretch out). Then we get to disclose all our income to him, so he finds out our hobby websites are amateur porn, and he gets another chuckle out of that (though he did seem to want the urls.. hmmm). He needed to establish whether what we made through the sites qualified as income that would go to our creditors, but he quickly deduced through calculations, that when you take everything in to consideration, we make just about 0$ on the sites (yippee!). Normally this news would depress me, but if it were determined we actually had some kind of profit from all this madness, half of it would be going to pay off creditors. So all's well that ends well. We don't have any income, assets, etc, that are worth touching, and since we have practically less than nothing, we have just enough to pay off the trustees for the nine months, and well, as stressful as it is in some ways, it's a total relief mostly.
It's frightening, but exciting in a weird way all at the same time, survival mode. I was looking in to what we can and can't do to keep ourselves afloat during the bankruptcy period (9 months - maybe I'll lose some weight) and we're allowed to sell things, as long as it's for under 50$ an item. So we're going to start organizing what we can hawk, and where. If I could afford a color cartridge for the damn printer I could print some nudes to sell at some local stores, oh well, takes money to make money.
I called the puppy kindergarten place and left a message, seeing if their class wasn't full, whether they could get me in at some kind of vastly reduced rate, or on some kind of payment plan. I want to do puppy kindergarten SO bad. It's 69$ though for the 6 weeks, and there is just no way to do that now. So I left them my sob story and I asked if they could get back to me if it was possible to make some kind of arrangement for us, if they don't fill up with people in the class who can actually pay, who knows maybe they'll take pity on me.
I'm going to call my friends with vehicles tonight and see if someone will take me cruising the pet store dumpsters, I have adult dog food from there, but It would be great if I could score some puppy food, and there's always more cat food and more cat litter.
I am so thankful for this little love though. I swear Ignatius is a Saint, and he keeps me sane. I'm going to say a prayer to the keeper of all small beasts to let us in to puppy kindergarten for free, and make a general plea to the universe to be generous in the next nine months. Life is going to get interesting. Likely we'll get lots of content up on the site mind you, since we don't have entertainment in the budget really, and taking digital pics is free for us. Creative projects will likely abound.
Okay enough of my whining. I'm here, I have a roof over my head, I have food available to me, I have the internet and a digital cam, I have the worlds most wonderful puppy. To steal a line from a man I respect: Life is good.
