Sept 1st - Mishima

My longest relationship, my familiar
13 years of selfless love

he gave me sleek kisses
and soft cuddles

He was forever trying to get in front of the camera
Wanting to co-star in every photo shoot

I'll never forget the day I found him

Curled in behind the litter box at the cat shelter
Only the tiniest bit of black shine showing

Then his head popping up
Green eyes unbelievably large, sparkling
Two oversized ears like bat wings

His fangs too large for his mouth sticking out on
either side... he looked silly and spooky
and he meowed at me the funniest hello

He was so skinny
on the way home he ate a McD's hamburger

He went to the vet had a clean bill of health
3 days later, he fell desperately ill
I stayed home for 2 weeks nursing him
pushing fluids and later very dilute foods
through an oral syringe, it was 2 weeks before
he stopped trying to die and ate food on his own again.
He was in perfect health after that, till 13 years later
he fell ill again, and this time, despite my attempts at care
he was beyond rescuing, and I knew this time, I had
to let him go.

We've shared so much, that it's hard
to express really all the joys and moments
I've had with Mishima, and what his passing has meant to me

Mishima was:

loyal
loving
nurturing
eccentric

Mishima could:
open closed doors
open cupboard doors
climb over a 7 foot vertical object

Mishima knew enough people
language that if there was a treat in it
for him, or he was in a giving mood,
he could on command:
Jump over on or through things
give a high five
sit
give kisses
lay down

Mishima liked to:

Wear jewelry, he didn't wear a collar, but if
you pulled an anklet or necklace or
something loose and shiny out he would
come running to beg to wear it, walk and sit and
pose proudly, he would be very careful for it not
to fall off, sometimes for hours

to eat fruit... his faves were mandarins in winter
and cherries in summer

There will never be another cat like him.
