The only one

You're the only one
who has truly been there
for me

unconditionally

You're the only one
who has ever stayed by my side
consistently

through my angriest
through my most terrified
through my craziest
out of control
moments

You've always been there
so completely
even when faced with the unknown
or the terrifying
the trials and tribulations

of life and love...

you've never once
turned away from me

I've tried to push you away
I've attacked you
I've been petty at times
selfish
and even cruel

Sometimes you've been frozen in inaction
or confused
but never far removed...

I sit with tears in my eyes
and love in my heart,
thinking how much you've given me
over the years

how strong and stable
keen and able
and ever present
has been your love

It's through you
that I've learned to know love
to really understand
what it means to live in love

in feeling
in action
in completion
In trust

It's from us that I've yearned to share that love
to let it free of it's bounds
to want it to spread outwards
connecting others

why couldn't it be something
all could share
