July 15 - Censorship
Well today I did something I didn't particularly enjoy... but felt was necessary.
I had someone enlighten me, that my big warning labels on my entrance page are not going to frighten minors off from exploring my site. So in the interest of legality, and from making sure images of an explicit adult nature were not viewable by those underage. I've gone through the free areas and blurred the 'naughty bits' on the pics in the galleries.
I've decided to leave the pics from past journal entries intact... and to monitor more carefully the content of ones I post in the future. The whole laws around running an adult site are very very tricky. For one they are not clearly outlined. In some ways, I think if 'they' (who ever they are...) really have it out for you, there probably isn't much you can do to protect yourself...
I have heard through the grapevine though that those who have free adult content that does not require an age verification or credit card process to access the adult content are much more often hard hit, than those protected through keeping all explicit images in a members only area. I almost pulled the free galleries all together, but have decided for now that I'll leave them with blurred bits and hope that suffices. What I might do in the future is simply replace them with very soft-core images instead, we'll see.
We knew of one local couple a few years ago that not only were charged, and fined, but had all their computer equipment confiscated. Though I think by far the worst is having a criminal record of a 'sex crime' nature.. that can kind of put a damper on your employment options.
So I felt it was prudent to at least minimize the risk where possible without trying to too greatly compromise my 'freedom of expression'...
