Well, we have been on the road, and we travelled all the way up to the North end of Vancouver Island, beautiful, visiting Long beach, visiting Cathedral grove old growth rainforest, going up to Port Hardy, blah blah blah, and well, I got food poisoning and got sick as a dog. SO sick, we had to cut it short and drive down asap back to Victoria for me to retreat into the haven of my parents den across from a real bathroom for me to be really sick in. I was sick sick sick for 5 days. Blech. Recuperated now, and we’ve gotten back on the road to explore the west coast of the Island a bit. Stayed at French Beach provincial park last night. So for people have not heard hide nor hair of me, I’ve either been away from internet access in the woods or on the beach, or cramped up in a little ball of dehydrated misery in my parents den and/or bathroom… mostly bathroom!

Well, I’m fighting off the very beginning symptoms of a cold. Wolfe has it full force, and I -so- do not want to be sick right now. We’re over on the Island visiting my parents and my sister and her family in Victoria right now, and later in the week we’re going to start driving up Island to explore the Island from tip to tip! It always amazes me how big our country is… this “small” Island I grew up on in the North Pacific just off the mainland of Canada is close to the size of England. I live in a big country! The fact that we are going to be driving across it is simply… thrilling!

There are some amazing places to visit on the Island that I haven’t been to since I was a teenager, or younger. Some phenomenal beaches, places where surfers sometimes come from far away to ride the waves at certain times of year. Gorgeous places like the area in and around Long Beach, so much stunning nature in Canada, starting with the Island, my own backyard where I grew up, Ocean, woods, old growth rain forest… but right now, we’re going to be in town for just a few more days… dropping off passport applications in preperation for crossing the border much later in the year. Looking into getting a strong box built for the camper to lock in our laptops and cameras and papers. And other odds and ends. Not to mention that when we cross back over onto the mainland, I have to get my remaining two wisdom teeth pulled on the 1st of May, and then a visit with my psychiatrist on the 3rd, drop off a few things into storage that we don’t seem to need in the camper after all. Then, I think when we will finally be heading East across the country, I think that excited feeling in my belly is going to really swell, when there are no more loose ends to tie up here, and there is no set date to be anywhere or do anything until my lap band surgery in July, it is going to be…. like flying free.

Well, it’s been an insane, absolutely crazy, last week. We sold our home, packed it up and moved into storage, picked up our RV/Camper van, and have been organizing the things in the van, buying stuff we need for it, making changes. We had to have the microwave in it replaced, and a leak in the fresh water tank fixed – which the place that sold it to us did at no charge. It’s been hard, I have to have dental work done before we leave town, Wolfe needs dental work, we have passports to get still before we head east, we have so many little odds and ends to finish up here and there. Then there are all the people we want to visit before we head out too, and we just don’t have the time to do it -all-. So we’re trying to be sensible and focus on what -has- to be done. For instance, we’ve discovered that our back tires don’t match, which is an issue, different sizes and treads can lead to too much stress on a single tire leading to a blow out that could actually do serious damage to the van – so… we are going to have to have those tires changed before we can go anywhere right now. That has to happen tommorow. So Wolfe had to cancel his dental appointment for tommorow as we have to do that, as well as a few other van adjusting necessities. Ack! So this is a short entry. I’m hoping once we have things sorted out a bit better, and are settled into our working vacation and travels that I’ll be able to get back to regular journalling. In the mean time, most of my computer time is getting up to date with returning emails and sorting stuff that has to be done. Not much leisure time yet! however it is really trully exciting to be ‘homeless’ or rather, being in a home on wheels.
