Trip to Oregon

We made a whirlwind trip to Oregon, and I mean whirlwind. We left saturday morning, and it took us seven hours to drive down. It was an interesting drive…

Some people count different types of cars when they travel, I count birds of prey, though I don’t keep very good tally, I stopped counting hawks after 9, and saw several more, plus a few eagles. The majority of hawks you see along the Pacific North West are red-tailed hawks, these suckers:

Almost all of them you see sitting on fence stumps or on street lamps, occasionally trees. Maybe they snack on the occasional road kill, I don’t know. I know they do love the rodent rich land on either side of the highway too. I only saw a few soaring. I only saw single birds, except for one couple, twirling and dancing in the sky together.

There are some differences though once you cross the border. The highway was rougher, literally. Our car doesn’t have the smoothest of rides, and a lot of the American highway was well, rough. Wolfe and I at some points would do that thing where you just open your mouth and ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh a nice long note, giggling at the ahgAHGahgAHG vibrating gurgling made from the resonance. Also blatant acts of patriotism everywhere, billboards, bumperstickers, flags, just a lot more of the red white and blue. We don’t do a lot of Canadian flagging here, no real Uncle Sam equivelant.

The thing we found funniest, probably the recurring littering road sign with threatening overtone.

It seemed well, a little ‘punitive’ focused.

Overall everything and everyone was nice and pleasant. Our motel though did -not- have high speed internet access as promised. We called and asked, they insisted absolutely no problem, and when we got there it was ‘down’. They said it probably needed to be reset, they would call the tech, and it should be fixed in an hour. No go, never did get online. We worked around it.

Then our lovely long haired model arrived to have her head shaved. A really sweet person, I had a lot of fun actually. I hadn’t planned on being the one to do the shave, I thought I’d be shooting it, but ended up doing it after all. I did get to do the after photos though. Once the shaving was done and I didn’t need to be in the pics I took over the camera.

Then we had a much needed break. Rather than gamble on an unknown restaurant, we went with Red Robin down the street, we really needed a proper big meal, and we got it. Then it was back to the motel, and Wolfe took photos of me for our BBW site. Then it was bed with pug snuggling and watching Mad TV. We were exhausted, but got up early for the complimentary continental breakfast - who can resist bagels with cream cheese? Not me! Then a relatively early start back. We made it back in a record 6 and a half hours, even with a few stops, drive through, gas, and pharmacy for more gravol for Bella. Oh and cheese to hide the gravol in, if Bella suspects you are dosing her with gravol she starts producing copious amounts of foam and spit and drool and looks completely ill and rabid. If she doesn’t know, shes fine, if she tastes it, she’s ill. I have become adept at the art of cheese over gravol origami and the proper placement of such art far in the back of her throat. If not done just so… disaster.

Well, we all got back safe and sound. We got a little taste of gypsy life. We liked it, the dogs survived, they were relatively well behaved in the motel, and all is good. With camper van… ooooo will be so much better!
